Crawfish boils are part of the spring ritual, and after skipping last year, we threw a little boil in May and invited family to come. We got a local crawfish connection that we will most likely use regularly in the future.
The cooking...
The eating...
(Looks like T Mom was cherry picking the big crawfish off of Poppa T's plate...no worries; there were plenty to go around.)
The visiting...
And of course, the documentation...
Meanwhile, we continue to add wild things to the freezer.
We've been trying out some different ways to cook this West Cove bounty...
Of course we can always fry them...which was the fate of some of the smaller speckled trout.
We experimented with broiled Parmesan Flounder and put it on wild rice...nice.
We fired up old smokey on the 4th of July and BBQ'd some flounder to go with the more traditional shrimp - very good.
You may remember the picture of the sack o' frogs from the last blog. Well, I sent some over to Lafayette, and my sister cooked them for my folks. Looks like someone was happy with the result.
Before we leave the topic of fishing, Brian had a chance to try for some red-eye bass in northern Alabama. He said it was like fishing for trout in swift clear water.
He also sent a picture as homage to a throwback shot of Scott from 2008...
I got a kick out of that!
The next transition items involve projects - from the "to-do" list to the completed list. Remember the "Rat Shed"? It was the last survivor of the run down structures that came with the place.
With the help of Joe and the tractor, it is no more.
Of course this will lead to another project...building a structure of some sort that will cover our array of implements and toys...I guess we will transition with a temporary 10X20 carport until then.
We also had an old fence at the Baton Rouge house that had seen better days.
With the help of Joe, Jack and the trailer...the falling down fence is no more (along with the crepe myrtle that was growing over into the neighbor's yard.)
Now I'll kick off a transition to random topics with some critter pics. First, the return of the turkey...
And a few feathered residents of the Rockefeller Refuge during a little exploratory drive we took last month...
We also had a weekend with Denise's brothers and sisters up at Lake Ouachita in Arkansas...as outsiders, my brother in law and I spent the fishing day trolling around. (We caught a couple of nice walleye which were the only fresh contributions to the fish fry). Here he is doing his best Joe Cocker photobomb impersonation to my picture of the gorgeous scenery.
I'll leave this blog with a little West Cove inspiration...
...and all this next picture is missing is the sound of angelic music as the birds indicate that hungry trout are anxiously awaiting our lure presentation.
That's it for now. Come on by and help us make room in the freezer for some more catching by helping with the eating. You might be able to help with some catching, too - but the fishing will be a little limited until the cooler weather returns (by October, hopefully).
