It feels like summer's here

Not a lot to update on this post, but I'll give it a go.  Summer doesn't officially start for another couple of weeks, but you sure could fool me.  The vegetables are starting to show their promise...celebrity tomatoes are going gangbusters -

...as are the Anaheim chili peppers...

Meanwhile the other half of the pepper patch was supposed to be bell peppers...but like the Sesame Street song - "one of these plants is not like the others; one of these plants just isn't the same;  guess which plant is not like the others; and that is how you play this game".

The one...

The other five...

To me, only the one looks like a bell pepper.  I have no idea what else was in that flat, but they don't look like bell peppers to me.

Oh well, at least the baby watermelons are looking like "Charleston Greys" as advertised...

Of course, not all of the goodies are domesticated.  Even though mayhaws and huckleberries turned out to be a bust this year, the wild blackberries around the perimeter of the north pasture are in their prime.

And Joe came earlier this week to go fishing with us...I'm glad he did because he caught the only keeper fish...5 really nice flounders.  We also scratched up 10 blue crabs which we boiled that night to give us a little taste...full and delicious.  We have to go get some more of those.

He's getting pretty good at the fine art of making flounder fillets...I gave him an A - on this effort.

I have a couple of items for the critters from the porch series.  The swamp rabbits love freshly mowed clover (and antagonizing Buck who I am sure just wants to "play" with the bunnies).

Also, we hung a little bird house in hopes of luring the wrens away from shoes, boots, and the exhaust pipe on my truck in their nest making efforts - success!

I'm pretty sure the eggs have hatched by now...I'll try to get some pictures for the next post.

I topped off the deer coon feeder, but have the feeding times cut way back.  I've only seen deer on two occasions, and the last deer I saw was a yearling back in December - but I keep the corn coming anyway.

Well, the night I was posting the previous blog entry (May 24th), I think Big Daddy sent me a little gift on his way to heaven...as evidenced by the following:

They showed up several times over the next few days - I'm glad I re-commissioned the game cam when we came back from Illinois.  Maybe it's time to put up a protein feeder; these things look skinny to me.

Deer showing up on the night of Big Daddy's passing is pretty cosmic, if you ask me.

Well that's it for now; tomorrow I'm heading down to the subject property that started this blog mess and do a little inspection and cleanup...trying to keep one step ahead of the POA Nazis.
